US delegation on 10-day visit to explore N-sector avenues

New Delhi, Feb 7 (PTI) A high-level delegation of USofficials and nuclear scientists is on a 10-day visit to Indiato explore ways of cooperation in the atomic energy sector.

Representatives from the Idaho National Laboratory(INL), the US administration''s key nuclear engineering andscience laboratory, are expected to identify nucleardevelopment opportunities and partnerships that will benefitboth countries, a US embassy statement said.

"All advanced nuclear energy nations benefit byunderstanding each other''s nuclear enterprises andcollaborating where appropriate," said John Grossenbacher, INLdirector and head of the delegation.

During the visit, the representatives from INL, willinteract with leaders and researchers in the government,industry and academia.

The delegation will meet representatives of highereducation at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Mumbai,Department of Atomic Energy, the Nuclear Power Corporation ofIndia and National Thermal Power Corporation.

INL which represented the US energy department duringnegotiations of the 123 Agreement on civil nuclear energycooperation.

While in Mumbai, INL will also present a charter tothe newly established India Section of the American NuclearSociety.

Similar INL delegations have visited China, SouthKorea, France, Canada, and Norway.
