Indians in Egypt safe, says embassy

Cairo, Feb 4 (PTI) Indians in Egypt numbering 3600 aresafe and the Indian embassy is in constant touch with them tomonitor their well-being in the wake of violent protestsagainst President Hosni Mubarak''s rule.
"The 3600-strong Indian community in Egypt is safe," theIndian embassy here said.
It said that a 24-hour Control Room has been operating inthe mission since January 28 to assist the Indian nationals.
The embassy had earlier facilitated three special flightsof Air India on January 31 and February 2 from Cairo to Mumbaito transport Indian nationals, including tourists stranded inEgypt, desirous of leaving the country immediately but notgetting confirmed seats on commercial flights, it said.
The embassy statement came amid unprecedented protestsagainst Mubarak''s 30-year rule. More than 150 people have beenkilled and thousands injured in the uprising which began onTuesday last.
