Congress not at fault: Oscar on Assam scams
Shillong, Feb 4 (PTI) With the Opposition parties inAssam trying to defame Congress-led government with corruptioncharges ahead of assembly polls, AICC leader Oscar Fernandestoday said there was no fault of Congress and that theseissues were related to the administration.
"It is not the fault of Congress. There are certainissues related to the administration which have to be dealtwith firmly," he said, talking to reporters on the sidelinesof a function here.
Assam government is facing corruption charges inconnection with the alleged multi-crore North Cachar Hillsdistrict autonomous council scam.
Opposition parties have stalled proceedings in thestate assembly over the issue.
Fernandes, maintaining that these charges will notharm the party''s poll fortunes, said, "The situation in Assamis in our favour and we are going to form the nextgovernment."
Saying the government will deal firmly with allcorruption cases, he said, "On all the issues, the governmentof India has taken a positive action. If there is any faultanywhere, further action will be taken."
He said Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi has alsotaken action against corruption charges whenever proved.
Fernandes will meet Assam Congress leaders tomorrow tochalk out election strategy.
