Dharamsala: ED starts probe on Karmapa's karma

An Enforcement Directorate (ED) team on Tuesday, Feb 1 reached the Monastery near Dharamsala where Karmapa Ugyen Thinley Dorje stays.
An investigating official stated, "They (ED) are investigating the sources of the money, what purpose it was meant for, why it was unaccounted and why the Indian government was not informed about the foreign currency."
However, denying allegation against Karmapa as a "Chinese spy", a spokesperson claimed, "The Karmapa has not done anything wrong to undermine and harm the interests of India."
"The Karmapa has got offerings from all over the world. The cash was donated money. There is no 'hawala' link to money," the spokesperson added.
Himachal Pradesh police, during a sudden raid at the Monastery, seized foreign currencies worth Rs 6.5 crore. According the sources, foreign currencies, which were seized, belonged to at least 23 countries.
