Suicide attack in Karachi kills one, seven injured

Islamabad, Jan 25 (PTI) A suspected suicide bomberrammed his motorcycle into a police van in Pakistan''sfinancial capital Karachi today, leaving one person dead andseven others injured.

The motorcycle-borne suicide bomber targeted thepolice van that was guarding a Shia procession in Malir areaof Karachi, witnesses were quoted as saying by Geo Newschannel.

The procession had already passed the area at thetime of the blast.

There was no official word on whether the blast wascarried out by a suicide bomber.

Karachi Police chief Fayyaz Leghari said the policevan was targeted with a bomb planted in a motorcycle.

One person was killed and at least seven others wereinjured, Geo News channel reported.

A policeman was among the injured, hospital officialssaid.

It could not immediately be ascertained if the deadperson was the suspected suicide bomber.
