High percentage of EPIC cards issued in Arunachal

Itanagar, Jan 25 (PTI) In a remarkable feat, fourdistricts in Arunachal Pradesh have recorded cent per centcoverage of EPIC cards while the coverage in remaining 12districts is above 95 per cent.

The districts namely Tawang, Upper Siang, DibangValley and Lower Dibang Valley have 100 per cent coverage ofEPIC while out of total 7,18,244 electorates in the state97.37 per cent are covered under EPIC, officials of electiondepartment disclosed during the National Voters'' Daycelebration here today.

Inaugurating the programme Governor Gen (Retd) J JSingh exhorted the voters to make universal adult franchise areality by generating awareness regarding people''s votingrights and importance of effective participation in electionprocess.

"Let us pledge to inculcate sense of participationin the governance in minds of the people and it will be ourreal contribution towards democratic ideals of ourconstitution" the governor added.

"Be an ambassador of the Election Commission andcreate awareness among your friends and relatives. Take uponyourself the responsibility to ensure that every eligiblemember of your family, area, village or circle is enrolled,"he said.

"Even for a single voter, a polling station, namelyMarambo under Anini constituency was set up in Dibang Valleydistrict, which reflects our sincerity and unflinchingcommitment in maintaining the spirit of democracy", he saidadding, voting percentage in Arunachal is always high incomparison to other regions of the country.
