Death toll rises to 65 in Iraq bombing

Baghdad, Jan 19 (AP) An Iraqi medical official says thedeath toll in a suicide attack on police recruits in northernIraq has risen to 65.

Hospital director Dr. Raied al-Ani says 150 people werewounded in the attack, which occurred yesterday in SaddamHussein''s hometown of Tikrit.

A suicide bomber joined hundreds of recruits waitingoutside a police station in Tikrit to submit applications for2,000 newly created jobs.

No group has taken responsibility, but the attack was inthe style of al-Qaida-linked Sunni groups that want to keepfellow Sunnis from joining the security forces. (AP)
