Royal Shakespeare Company to sell thousands of costumes
London, Jan.16 (ANI): The Royal Shakespeare Company is to sell thousands of its costumes worn by actors, including David Tennant and Sir Ian McKellen.Over 10,000 items will go on sale next month, including shirts, hats, shoes, Egyptian head-dresses and a variety of military uniforms, jewellery and other accessories, The Telegraph reports.
Among the garments up for sale are the soldiers's tabards and chain-mail from the RSC's 1984 production of Henry V starring Kenneth Branagh which later featured in Mel Gibson's film Braveheart, a selection of pieces worn by Sir Ian in The Seagull and King Lear and several items worn by Tennant in the 2008 production of Love's Labour's Lost.
Alistair McArthur, the RSC's head of costume, said: "We have items for sale from every area of the wardrobe, including costumes that first made their debut on stage back in the 1970s and 80s. The sale will include costumes designed by top theatre designers like Deirdre Clancy and our own Olivier Award winning Tom Piper. (ANI)
