British-Pak Christians, Sikh council honour slain Pak Punjab Governor

London, Jan 16(ANI): The British-Pakistani Christian Association presented the Pakistan High Commission with a wreath in memory of slain Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer, as 'a show of representation of the love the community has for Pakistan and the late Governor'.

"We believe that Taseer has become a strong emblem of the campaign towards a fairer Pakistan," the Daily Times quoted BPCA Secretary-General Wilson Chowdhry, as saying on the occasion.

The words on the wreath said: "In memory of a great man, Salmaan Taseer, Governor of Punjab, who bravely gave his life defending the rights of Pakistan citizens. He will be remembered for all his good deeds and bravery when he spoke out against the continued miscarriage of justice."

"Pakistan has lost one of its most conscientious and progressive statesman, the world has lost a great humanitarian. In speaking for the voiceless minorities of Pakistan, Governor Salmaan Taseer has shown a way forward for the people of Pakistan...Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Governor Taseer. Christians everywhere are praying for succour for them and a restoration of peace in Pakistan."

Another wreath on behalf of the British Sikh Council stated that Salmaan had sacrificed his life for the greater good of all mankind, and that Pakistan and the entire world had lost a great Samaritan of humanity.

Salmaan was a great supporter of the Sikh community, and will be missed, the tribute added. (ANI)
