Puducherry govt''s cash award for NGO

Puducherry, Jan 14 (PTI) Union Territory Administrationhas instituted Mother Theresa Centenary award for socialservice in Puducherry 2010 as a tribute to mark the birthcentenary of the nun who had devoted her life for the cause ofthe poor and the have-nots.

A notification of the Welfare Department of Puducherryissued today said the award would be in the form of a cashpresentation of Rs 1 lakh to a non-governmental organisationwhich has done outstanding service to the aged, the destitute,diseased and those who are terminally ill, HIV patients andthose abandoned by families.

The one time award would be presented to the NGO selectedby the eleven member multi disciplinary selection committeeconstituted for the purpose and headed by Chief Minister, onthe occasion of Republic Day this year.
