Karaikal Carnival begins tomorrow

Karaikal, Jan 14 (PTI) ''Karaikal Carnival,'' the annual,week-long event in the district organised by the PuducherryGovernment to attract domestic and foreign tourists will begintomorrow.

Karaikal District Collector Franklin Laltinkhuma said''Karaikal Carnival 2011,'' which will conclude on Jan 19, wouldfeature events such as musical nights, cultural programmes,talent show and food festival.

Puducherry Chief Minister V Vaithilingam, Union Ministerof State for Planning V Narayanasamy and Puducherry LtGovernor Iqbal Singh are among those who will take part in theinaugural ceremony at the Municipal Grounds in Murugaram Nagaron tomorrow evening. The Government has allotted Rs 24 lakhsfor the conduct of the festival.

The special event in the carnival would be a light musicperformance by popular Tamil playback singers, the Collectorsaid. In addition, there will be a cycle expedition foryouths, a catamaran race in Arasalar river and volley ballgames on the beach. A marathon race named ''Carnival run'' andmagic show will also be held.
