Debt-ridden farmer commits suicide in Damoh district of MP
Damoh (MP), Jan 14 (PTI) A debt-ridden farmer whosecrop was badly damaged by frost and the cold wave, allegedlycommitted suicide, officials sources said.
Nanhebhai Joshi, a farmer from Harpalpura village underPatera Police Station, set himself afire yesterday and diedtoday at Damoh district hospital.
In a statement to the Tehsildar before succumbing toinjuries, he said he wanted to kill himself as he was veryupset due to the damage caused to the the standing crop by thefrost and the cold weather, sources said.
Joshi had sown arhar (pulses) in four acres. The entirecrop was lost.
He had taken loan for seeds and fertilisers, sourcesadded.
There have been other instances of farmers committingsuicide in the area in the last few weeks.
