Dacoits kill lorry driver

Haveri, Jan 14 (PTI): A six-member armed gang of highwaydacoits murdered a lorry driver and injured its cleaner whenthey resisted their bid to loot textile goods in the vehicleat Chatra village in the small hours of today, police saidhere.

The gang attacked the driver and the cleaner while theywere sleeping in their vehicle loaded with textile materialbound for Bangalore from Mumbai, police said.

The cleaner had been hospitalised in a critical condition,police said.

The gang fled the scene after killing the driver, but didnot took away any valuables.

Police said the gang members speaking in Kannada and Hindilater attacked driver of another lorry and relieved him of Rs5,000 cash.

The police have launched an hunt for the culprits. PTICOR MSR
