Inquiry ordered against senior police officer

Mumbai, Jan 14 (PTI) A departmental inquiry has beeninitiated against the senior inspector of a police station insouth Mumbai following complaints of extortion by businessmen.

According to social activist Muzaffar Hussain, seniorinspector Sanjeev Kokil of MRA Marg police station had beenextorting money from businessmen in Musaffir Khana, BoraBazaar and Manish Market since December 2009.

As per Hussain''s complaint, Kokil extorted moneythreatening to implicate the local businessman for not havingproper documentation for import-export, etc.

Mumbai police commissioner Sanjeev Dayal said that sinceallegations were serious, a departmental inquiry has beenordered.

When contacted, inspector Kokil denied the allegations,saying that complainants had a grouse against him as he wasnot allowing illegal activities in the area.
