Haryana Governor calls for gender equality
Karnal, Jan 13 (PTI) The Governor of Haryana JagannathPahadia today called for gender equality and honoured 23villages of this district where more female births werewitnessed in the last two years.
"Birth of a female child should be celebrated andgirls must be given equal opportunity in every sphere oflife," he said, while attending a function ''Lohri Beti KeNaam'' here. He also announced to provide Rs 1 lakh from hisdiscretionary fund for female education.
The Governor also awarded ''Sarpanchs'' of the villageswhere in the last two years more female births have beenreported than that of males. Haryana is one of the Indiansates where gender ratio is less than 900.
