US calls Pakistan 'epicentre' of terrorism

Admiral Mike Mullen
Washington, Jan 13: A top US military official has called Pakistan the 'epicentre' of global terrorism and emphasised that America's success in Afghanistan is a distant dream unless and until terror havens in Pakistan are dismantled.

The statement from Admiral Mike Mullen, Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff vindicates India's stand against Pakistan. He said, "I've said it before and I'll say it again it [Pakistan] is the epicentre of terrorism in the world right now, and it deserves the attention of everybody to do as much as we can to eliminate that threat."

Referring to the nexus between between various terror organisations based in Pakistan, he said,"It's not just Haqqani any more, or Al Qaeda, or the Afghan Taliban or LeT [Lashkar-e-Taiba], it's all of them working together, in ways that two years ago they absolutely did not."

Stressing on the importance of the dismantling of terror-camps thriving in Pakistan, he said, "It is absolutely critical that the safe havens in Pakistan get shut down. We cannot succeed in Afghanistan without that."

Recently, Salman Tasheer, the governor of Pakistan's Punjab province was murdered for his support to the amendment of blasphemy law. The assassin was later celebrated as hero by the lawyers when they showered petals of rose flower on his arrival at the court for the murder trials.
