Maha to get first urban terror combat police training centre
Mumbai, Jan 12 (PTI) Maharashtra would soon have itsfirst urban terror combat training centre for the police atBaramati in Pune district in the wake of persisting terrorthreats in cities.
"The state has no such training centre for the police whowould get advanced training to combat urban terror," DirectorGeneral of Police D Sivanandan today said in a release issuedby the State Home Department.
The decision was taken at a meeting attended by DeputyChief Minister Ajit Pawar, Home Minister R R Patil, Sivanandanand Additional Chief Secretary(Home) Umeshchandra Sarangihere.
Pawar assured Rs 20 crore for the training centre alongwith matching funds from the Centre, the release said.
Maharashtra government has already set up Force One,a counter-terror unit, as the National Security Guard (NSG)had reached Mumbai nine hours late during 26/11. The NSG alsohas a team in Mumbai after the incident.
