India Russia urge Pakistan to bring 26/11 culprits to justice
New Delhi, Dec. 21 (ANI): Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, who is in India for an annual summit, today said: " No civilized country can hide terrorists as law abiding citizens."
In a joint statement which has been released under title of celebrating a decade of the India-Russia federation strategic partnership and looking ahead, both countries called upon Pakistan to expeditiously bring to justice the perpetrators , authors and accomplices of the November 2008 Mumbai attacks.
All terrorist networks must be defeated, both sides stated in the joint statement.
India and Russia strongly condemned countries supporting terrorism and in the joint statement both sides noted that states that aid , abet or shelter are as guilty of acts of terrorism as their actual perpetrators.
India and Russia also discussed the deteriorating security situation in Afghanistan, and, both sides, concluded that a successful stabilization of Afghanistan would be possible only after the elimination of safe havens and infrastructure for terrorism and violent extremism that are present in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Both sides also highlighted the need for strict observance of the sanctions regime against persons and entities listed by the UNSCR 1267 Sanctions Committee."
Both expressed satisfaction over the reintegration process in Afghanistan.
India also expressed sympathy for victims of terrorist attacks in Moscow metro stations in March 2010.
President Medvedev called for an extradition treaty to facilitate extradition of criminals involved in terrorist activities. He assured that Moscow would do its utmost to achieve this objective.
Tuesday's annual summit between India and Russia was the tenth one between the two countries.
Medvedev will be visiting Mumbai on Wednesday to express solidarity with the victims of 26/11.
Dr. Singh said: "Both India and Russia are victims of terror. There is natural synergy in working together to deal with the menace. We should work together in information sharing and intelligence sharing."
Both India and Russia today signed nearly 30 agreements pertaining to Civil nuclear energy, innovative technology,defence, hydrocarbons and information technology. (ANI)
