China devoted to maintaining peace on Korean Peninsula: Chinese Premier
Moscow, Nov 25(ANI): Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has said that his country is devoted to maintaining peace on the Korean Peninsula and opposed any military provocations.
Jiabao's comments come after North Korea fired a barrage of artillery rounds toward Yeonpyeong Island near the tense Yellow Sea border, killing at least two South Korean marines and two civilians on Tuesday.
"China has all along devoted itself to maintaining the Peninsula's peace and stability, and opposes any threat of force," Xinhua news agency quoted Jiabao, as saying during his meeting with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in Moscow.
He further stressed that under the current serious and complex circumstances, all concerned parties should exert maximum restraint.
The Chinese Premier also said that the international community should make more efforts conducive to easing up the tensions.
"Restarting the six-party talks is an essential way to secure stability and denuclearization on the Peninsula," Jiabao said.
Medvedev said that Russia backs an early reopening of the talks and is ready to coordinate with China to keep peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula. (ANI)
