Saudi woman who defied driving ban killed in accident

Riyadh, Nov 22 (ANI): A woman who refused to obey a ban on women driving in Saudi Arabia, has been reportedly killed along with three of her 10 female passengers when her car overturned in a crash.

The Herald Sun quoted a Riyadh police official, Fawwaz al Miman, as saying that seven other women were all injured in Saturday night's crash in a desert area where young Saudis gather to stage car races.

He also said that the unidentified woman, who was in her twenties, was in a four-wheel-drive vehicle when she lost control and hit a barrier.

Several incidents of women being killed in accidents while driving were reported in recent years despite the ban, one of a host of restrictions imposed on women in the conservative Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, women's rights campaigners have petitioned King Abdullah to lift the ban. (ANI)
