Cuba: Turboprop aircraft crashes with 68 on board

Havana, Nov 5: After declaring an emergency, a Cubian ATR-72-212 twin turboprop aircraft, carrying 68 people, crashed on Thursday, Nov 4. There was no immediate information on whether any survived.

The aircraft, which belonged to Cuba's state-owned Aero Caribbean airlines, was flying from the eastern city of Santiago de Cuba to the capital.

The plane was said to have left Santiago de Cuba en route to Havana around 4 pm on Nov 4 and went down near the town of Guasimal in Sancti Spiritus province after issuing an emergency call.
