Man held for plotting attacks on Washington metro

Washington, Oct 28: Federal officials arrested Pakistani-American, Farooque Ahmed, 34, on charges of plotting terror attacks on Washington"s metro system.

"Ahmed has been charged for collecting information, providing material support to al-Qaida to carry out multiple bombing to cause mass casualties at the Washington"s metro system," the justice department said.

"Ahmed is accused of plotting with terrorists to bomb our transit system, but a coordinated law enforcement and intelligence effort was able to thwart his plans," the justice department said.

However, the plot was never materialised and f convicted, Ahmed could be jailed for up to 50 years, added the department.
