Haiti cholera epidemic: Death toll mounts to 250

Haiti, Oct 25: Despite the news that cholera epidemic in Haiti, which killed more than 250 people so far, was under control; the outbreak is likely to widen, reported a senior UN official on Oct 24.

United Nations humanitarian coordinator of the region, Nigel Fisher stated, "We must gear up for a serious epidemic, even though we hope it won't happen."

The UN official also informed that more than 3,000 cholera cases have been reported till Oct 24.

However, speaking at a press conference, Foreign Minister, Marie Michele Rey on Oct 24 stated, "of those who are on the spot appear to be able to contain the situation."

The United Nations also assured that while the cases were worrying, it did not consider that they marked the spread of cholera across the country.
