Pak by-polls: 14 dead, 40 injured in violence
The political party, Awami National Party announced it would boycott the election as its demand for proper security and deployment of the army had not been met by the government.
Police sources informed that the agitators torched vehicles and forced shopkeepers and restaurant owners to close down their businesses on Oct 17.
The polls for the provincial assembly seat PS-94 was seen as a direct contest between the Mutthaida-e-Qaumi Movement which represents the Urdu speaking population of the city and the ANP which represents the Pasthun speaking migrants.
