Canonical, the company founded by South African entrepreneur Mark Shuttleworth for the promotion of Ubuntu and other free software projects, has launched the the new version of Ubuntu on Sunday, Oct 10. The new version is available for desktops, netbooks and servers.
Ubuntu team has added new features to the updated version for desktops, netbooks and servers. Ubuntu desktop edition has been optimized for closer connectivity to the user"s cloud and Ubuntu netbook edition comes loaded with a brand new user interface called Unity.
It also has the new features like Ubuntu Software Centre which gives access to applications, games and tools, multi-touch support, updated software packages. Social networking features come with 'Me Menu', enables quick access to Facebook and Twitter, and the Ubuntu One Music Store.
Ubuntu is composed of many software packages, of which the vast majority are distributed under a free software license. Users can download the all new Ubuntu 10.10 - Maverick Meerkat freely from Ubuntu's website.
