Delhi: Indo-Canadian cultural exhibition starts

New Delhi, Sep 28: National Gallery of Canada (NGC) has packed some of its rarest masterpiece works of art into an exhibition titled Sanaugavut, Inuit Art from the Canadian Arctic from Tuesday, Sep 28, at the National Museum, New Delhi.

This is the first of the initiatives to bolster the cultural ties between India and Canada, after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Canadian counterpart Stephen Harper signed the Memorandum of Understanding during the G-8 Summit in Jun.

The Indo-Canadian cultural cooperation also marked two-day international workshop, opened on Tuesday, Sep 28, being attended by students, teachers and artists to gather hands-on experience on indigenous art traditions.

Jim Nickel, the acting High Commissioner of Canada to India described the exhibition as an exciting moment in the cultural relation between both the countries."

He said the Inuit art is one of the most iconic arts of Canada and some of the best works are on display now.
