Nandigram firing case: SC issues notice to WB govt
The CBI has petitioned the Supreme Court seeking permission to conclude its probe into the Mar 2007 police firing in Nandigram in which 14 persons were killed and over 100 injured.
On Dec 13, 2007, the Apex court allowed the agency to continue with the probe as per the Calcutta High Court's order but had restrained it from filing its final report in the case.
The West Bengal government then challenged the Calcutta High court order.
The state government had stated that High court can't order a CBI probe without the consent of the state government.
In its petition the CBI cited the recent Supreme Court ruling that High Courts could order CBI probe into incidents without the consent of the state.
