Nifty adds 405.55 point at closing

Mumbai, Sep 17: With the help of marginal sell-off, led by strong inflow of funds from foreign institutional investors (FIIs), Sensex added 1373.32 points and the Nifty 405.55 points while closing on Sep 17.

The 30-share BSE Sensex closed at 19,594.75, up 177.26 points or 0.91 pc and the 50-share NSE Nifty rose 56.25 points or 0.97 pc to settle at 5,884.95.

Suzlon Energy, DLF, Maruti Suzuki, Sun Pharma were among the top gainers with 3.00 pc, 2.51 pc, 2.09 pc, 1.81 pc up respectively.

HDFC, IDFC, Wipro, Maruti Suzuki were among the top losers with 1.16 pc, 0.87 pc, 0.76 pc, 0.64 pc respectively.

Sensex surges; ACC, ABB, RIL up

At 2:14 pm, the Nifty continued on positive bias with more than 1pc in first hour of trade.

Buyjing was seen in metal, telecom, oil&gas, IT, pharma, cement, realty and auto stocks.

The Sensex was up 197.11 points at 19614.60, and the Nifty was up 63.10 points at 5891.80. Both BSE Midcap and Smallcap index were up 1.32pc and 1.2pc respectively.

In the large space Ranbaxy Labs, Ambuja Cements, Reliance Communications, ACC and ABB were up 3-5pc. While DFC, Maruti Suzuki and HDFC were trading in red.

Nifty inches towards 5900; heavyweights support

At 12:02 pm, the Nifty surged to 5900 level, which was supported by heavyweights.

The Sensex was trading at 19626, up 209 points and the Nifty was at 5894, up 66 points.

The top gainers were Coromandel Engg, Advani Hotels and Delta Corp up 20pc each.

Among the active shares were SBI, Tata Steel, Midfield Inds, ICICI Bank and DLF.

Nifty opens on +ve note

The benchmark Nifty opened on positive, which was above 5850 level. The index also continued positive momentum after a break on Thursday, Sep 16.

At 9:24 am,the Sensex was trading at 19572, up 156 points and the Nifty was at 5877, up 48 points.

The CNX Midcap rose 78 points to 9107 and about 732 shares advanced while 131 shares declined on NSE.

The frontliners were Bharti Airtel, DLF, Unitech, Hindalco, Cairn India, Kotak Mahindra Bank, GAIL, Sun Pharma, ACC, and TCS

The Asian markets were also supportive to markets.
