K'taka celebrates 150th birth anniv of Sir MV

Bangalore, Sep 16: The 150th birth anniversary of engineer-statesman Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, known as Sir MV, was celebrated on Wednesday, Sep 15 in Karnataka.

He was one of the earliest recipients of the Bharat Ratna, the country"s highest civilian award in 1955.

Special functions were held across the state to commemorate his huge contribution in Commerce and Industry.

Governor H R Bhardwaj and Union Law Minister Veerappa Moily, were among those present at the Muddenahalli function.

Sir MV designed the Krishnaraja Sagar Reservoir (KRS) near Mysore which has tourist attraction of Brindavan Gardens, set up State Bank of Mysore, the engineering college in Bangalore and served as Dewan of the princely state of Mysore.
