Drunk car driver kills scooter rider in Mumbai

Mumbai, Sep 1: A drunk car driver rammed into a scooter killing the rider on the spot and injuring the pillion in Malabar Hill area of Mumbai in the wee hours of Wednesday, Sep 1 morning.

The accident happened at Marine Drive when 30-year-old Sushil Rajendra Kothari, who was driving his Ford Ikon on his way home, rammed into the scooter and subsequently into another four wheeler.

The rider of the scooter, Habib Zulfikar Qureshi, died on the spot while the pillion rider received minor injuries and has been admitted at JJ hospital, the police informed.

"Even after ramming into the scooter, the accused did not stop and sped away towards Malabar Hill where he dashed into another car. He was arrested from there," a police officer said.

Kothari was arrested following the mishap. He has been booked for culpable homicide and negligent driving after a medical report confirmed that he was under the influence of alcohol while driving.
