Surrey Guru Nanak Temple shooting: Radio India MD Gill charged with five offences

London, Aug 31 (ANI): Radio India Managing Director Maninder Gill has been charged with five offences in connection with the weekend alleged shooting of a prominent businessman in the parking lot of Surrey Guru Nanak Temple during a wedding ceremony.

A police statement has revealed that Gill, who has no criminal record, has been charged with two counts of discharging a firearm with intent and one each of pointing a firearm, possession of a firearm for a dangerous purpose and unauthorized possession of a firearm, The Globe and Mail reports.

Fourty-seven-year-old Gill, allegedly shot Harjit Atwal in the leg on Saturday at the temple in Surrey.

Police said the shooting was not a random incident and that the two men were known to each other.

Online court documents show that Atwal and two of his associates filed a civil law suit against 12 employees of Radio India and the company itself, with Gill being one of the defendants.

The case, filed August 3, claims that Radio India defamed Atwal and his associates in a series of broadcasts in Punjabi on May 14 this year. (ANI)
