Nearly 400 terror suspects likely to be released in Pak Punjab due to lack of evidence
Lahore, Aug.26 (ANI): In what clearly showcases the impotence of Pakistani authorities to counter the terror threat, sources have revealed that nearly 400 terror suspects are likely to be released from jail, as the authorities have failed to register any case against them.
According to reports, officials of the Home Department, Punjab Police and Prisons Department confirmed the "gradual" release of about 390 terror suspects, belonging to various banned outfits such as the Jaish-e-Muhammed (JeM), Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ), Sipah-e-Sabaha-Pakistan (SSP) and others.
"Release of these detainees could not bee ruled out until the registration of first information reports against them or extension in their detention period," The Daily Times quoted Punjab Home Secretary Nadeem Hassan Asif, as saying.
Meanwhile, intelligence agencies have warned the federal government against releasing such a huge number of terrorists, saying it could lead to a dangerous situation.
Dozens of terror suspects have been granted bail by Pakistani courts in the recent past with the government failing to table any evidence against them. (ANI)
