Karachi, Aug.20 (ANI): Violence and arson once again returned to Karachi with 11 persons being killed and 16 others injured following the murder of Awami National Party (ANP) office bearer, Ubaidullah Yousufzai.

Yousufzai was gunned down along with one of his colleagues near the Quaid-e-Azam International Airport resulting in large scale violence in the financial capital which saw several vehicles and shops set on fire by miscreants.

According to Airport police station house office (SHO) Abdul Ghaffar Korai, Yousufzai, who was an employee at the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Cargo Terminal, and a co-worker, Saleem Akhter, were sitting in their car when unidentified opened fire on them injuring them seriously.

"Both sustained several bullet injuries and the police shifted them to the PIA dispensary, where they succumbed to their injuries," The Daily Times quoted Korai, as saying.

Dozens of unidentified protestors took to streets as the news of the assassination spread like wild fire in the city, and resorted to firing. The angry mob also pelted stones on cars and set a passenger bus on fire.

Heavy contingents of police and Rangers were deployed in the Railways Cantonment area, where the situation was particularly severe, to prevent more violence.
