Bridegroom kills father in customary AK-47 firing

Ankara, Aug 9: A wedding custom turned into a bloodbath here when the bridegroom lost control of the AK-47 handed over to him to fire in the air and opened fire at the crowd killing his father and two aunts.

Bridegroom Tevfik Altu was taken into custody after he accidentally shot dead his father, Arif Altun, and his two aunts, Yasemin Koseoglu and Munire Koseoglu in Gaziantep province on Sunday, Aug 8.

Four others were injured in the firing and are said to be in a critical condition.

Many cultures see shooting off guns as part of a celebration. It is a custom observed in Mexican and Latino culture as well as in some African and Middle-Eastern countries.
