UN allocates 18 million dollar aid for flood victims of Pakistan

Islamabad, Aug.3 (ANI): The United Nations has allocated 18 million dollars for flood victims in Pakistan.

The UN Office of Humanitarian Assistance already had some $8 million in Pakistan relief funds and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon had released some $10 million in Central Emergency Relief Funds, The Dawn reported a UN spokesman to have stated on Monday.

The UN chief expressed grief over the significant loss of lives, livelihoods, and infrastructure as a result of torrential monsoon rains that have caused the worst floods in the country in 80 years, the report further stated.

Meanwhile, the World Food Programme announced on Monday that it was mobilising every possible resource to make sure the needs of the affected people were met as quickly as was humanly possible.

On Sunday, the first emergency rations for flood victims reached some 3,000 families in Peshawar, Nowshera and Charsadda, three of the worst-hit areas. (ANI)
