BSNL defies Pitroda panel, set to hire 10,000
New Delhi, Jul 26: Against the suggestion made by Sam Pitroda panel, the state-run telecom giant Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) is reportedly poised to add 10,000 employees to its workforce.
The high-level panel, headed by Sam Pitroda, adviser to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, had suggested BSNL to cut staff strength by 100,000 from the existing 350,000.
However, BSNL is on a major recruitment drive to add 10,000 employees in its sales and marketing division, according to a Business Standard report.
The leading business publication quoted Chairman and Managing Director Kuldeep Goyal as informing that the company had already redeployed and trained about 10,000 people from other departments for the division and would hire about 10,000 to 15,000 people in the next one to two years.
BSNL had in the past made its difference to the Pitroda panel suggestion laud and clear. BSNL employees had also opposed the recommendation and threatened to go on strike if implemented.
After it was unsuccessful in capitalising on the 2G market, BSNL is aiming at utilising the 3G spectrum to its fullest. And the focus on marketing and recruitment in this sphere is being seen in lines with this intention.
Meanwhile in Rajkot, the company flaged-off 3G Wireless mobile (third generation) and high-speed data (upto 3.6 Mpbs/second) internet services.
