Tornado Conson: Toll rises to 76 in Philippines

Manila, Jul 20: The death toll caused by Typhoon Conson shot up to 76 as the rescuers in Philippines have recovered eight more bodies from the sea on Tuesday, Jul 20.

Air force choppers and airplanes and coast guard ships scoured the seas as the weather was better, to search the 72 people still missing since last week.

They could recover the dead bodies of eight people in waters off eastern provinces, informed National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC). Most of the missing were drowned in the sea or in rivers which overflowed. Some were also hit by the uprooted rees, toppled electric posts and other debris.

Many of the missing were fishermen who had gone to seas before Conson's arrival on Tuesday, Jul 13. NDCC also said that the tornado destructed the infrastructure, agriculture and fisheries worth 4 million dollars,
