Melbourne, Jul 20: In the latest incident of violence against Indians down under, 24-year-old Indian student was brutally beaten up and left with severe face and mouth injuries.

The victim, identified as Bharat Thapar, was attacked on Monday, Jul 19 when he tried to save another Indian who was getting beaten up on the streets here.

According to a leading Indian TV news channel report, the victim of the brutal assault has sustained such critical injuries that he is in no state to speak and narrate the incident himself.

The doctors who are treating Bharat estimate that he will not be able to talk for another week.

Bharat moved to Australia three years ago from Haryana and has just completed his studies at a Melbourne college.

Bharat was put in the ambulance soon after the attack by policemen, who allegedly let the assailants go free.

There are two eyewitnesses to the incident including the Indian who was saved by Bharat.

Both the eyewitnesses have alleged that the police is trying to misrepresent the facts to state that it was Bharat who started the fight.

Even though the outright anger and resentment towards the attacks on Indians down under has declined, the ground reality evidently continues to be the same.
