Call to unite Malay-Indian political parties and groups

Kuala Lumpur, Jul 12 (ANI): A Malaysian Indian Congress delegate has proposed that party president S. Samy Vellu hold a roundtable conference to unite Indian political parties and groups.

"It is only through this that the Indian community can be united," said A. Ananthan, who is from the Bukit Bintang division, during the presidential debate at the MIC general assembly on Sunday.

Another delegate, M. Ramachandran of the Tanjung Malim division, said many professionals were migrating overseas because they were not recognised for their contributions."

"We should find ways to stop them from leaving the country rather than trying to attract professionals from other countries," The Star quoted him, as saying.

He said political parties would canvass for votes during elections, but what was due to the Indian community was not given.

P. Uthaya Kumar from the Sepang division said youth in estates should be given skills training so that they would be able to survive in urban areas.

He said that in the last general election, Barisan Nasional component parties suffered losses and the MIC was blamed.

"We have proven that the Indians are coming back (to Barisan) with the wins in Bagan Pinang and Hulu Selangor and no one can deny this fact," he said. (ANI)
