Nirupama Rao meets Dalai Lama
Dharamsala, Jul 11: Indian Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao met Tibetan spiritual leader, Dalai Lama in Dharamsala on Saturday, Jul 10.
Nirupama Rao, former ambassador to China and Foreign Ministry Spokesperson talked with Dalai Lama at the official palace of the spiritual leader at around 4.15 pm.
Closed-door meeting lasted about an hour. Rao"s visit is kept away from the media like earlier visits by her predecessors Syam Saran and Shiv Shankar Menon.
Samdhong Rinpoche, prime minister of the government-in-exile and other high officials also participated in the meeting.
Media reported that the foreign secretary had discussed the issues relating to Tibetan exiles with the Nobel Laureate.
The Dalai Lama"s government-in-exile is not recognised by any country. About 140,000 Tibetans now live in exile, over 100,000 of them in different parts of India.
