Mehbooba remains defiant to PM's request

New Delhi, Jul 11: Mehbooba remained defiant after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh requested the PDP leader to attend the all-party meeting convened by Jammu Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. The meeting will be conducted on Monday, Jul 12.

Singh who had a meeting with Mufti discussed with her about the need for the government and the opposition to be on the same side in Kashmir to tackle the current situation.

PDP has so far stuck to its decision to stay away from the conference. Mehbooba on Saturday, Jun 10 night said that the meeting will not serve the purpose and hence there was no point in attending the meeting.

Omar on Saturday, Jun 10 had requested PDP to attend the meet in order to discuss the present situation in the valley. PDP sources say that he wrote that 'he was pained to hear about the decision of PDP' and that he 'would be grateful if she could join the deliberations'. Omar had also spoke to Mehbooba over the phone regarding the conference.

The invitation to attend the meeting has been extended to all 12 recognized parties in the state. This include National Conference, Congress, PDP, BJP, Panthers Party, CPI(M), CPI, Peoples Democratic Forum, Democratic Party (Nationalist), Bahujan Samaj Party, Rashtriya Janata Dal and Nationalist Congress Party.
