Imphal, July 9 (ANI): Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swara,j has said that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would focus on what she called "the pathetic situation" of Manipur during the ensuing Monsoon Session of Parliament.
"For last many days, Manipur has been disturbed and suffering in many ways. Therefore, my party unit wanted us to come here and look at the affairs, meet the concerned people and then raise these issues in Parliament," Swaraj told mediapersons
She said the Congress party was indifferent to the volatile situation.
"Neither the Home Minister, nor the Prime Minister has time, nor Congress chief has time; even junior ministers are not willing to come. All the leaders of Congress are quietly enjoying and they are not concerned about the suffering of the people of Manipur," Swaraj said.
The economic blockade called by the All Naga Students Association (ANSAM) and the United Naga Council (UNC) since April 2 had deprived the people of essential commodities.
Although this economic blockade was lifted recently, Manipur is still reeling under acute shortage of petroleum products, LPG cylinders and other essential commodities.
In May, the Manipur government had prevented National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) leader Thuingaleng Muivah from entering his hometown in Ukrul district of the State.
The state administration had contended that his visit could stoke the demand for inclusion of Naga-dominated areas of Manipur in the proposed Nagalingam or Greater Nagaland. (ANI)
