Gay priest rejected for UK bishopric: Reports

London, Jul 8: The Church of England committee has taken the decision against nominating the gay priest to become a bishop.

Several news papers reported that Rev Jeffrey John was rejected as the potential nominee to become bishop of Southwark in south London. However, the church officials have not commented over the matter, yet.

Rev John was nominated to become a bishop in 2003, but the decision was withdrawn in the face of an uproar from conservatives. John is the dean of St Albans Cathedral, presently.

Church officials refused to confirm the news reports that he was on the list of candidates considered by a nominating commission.
