Hurricane Alex disrupts oil spill clean-up
Gulf of Mexico, Jul 6: It has been 76 days since the oil spill hit the Gulf of Mexico. But there seems to be no head-way in the clean-up operations as choppy waters have now become a huge hurdle as the Hurricane Alex hits the region.
The world"s largest oil skimmer, the supertanker, named A Whale, which has been deployed to suck up the large quantities of oily water from the gulf"s surface is unable top carry on with the operations as the sea is choppy.
Hurricane Alex has stirred up water along the coasts of Mississippi, Alabama and Florida bringing the clean-up operations to a grinding halt over the last week.
New York Times reported that the weather also prevented a fleet of smaller skimmers from working.
