Tortured for dowry, woman ends life in B'lore

Bangalore, Jun 30: 19-year-old M Nandini, a newly married girl in Bangalore killed herself on Tuesday, Jun 29, as she was harassed by her husband Mohan G and in laws for dowry.

Unable to bear humiliation anymore, M Nandini hanged herself after writing a letter stating how her husband and in laws racked her.

According to Mid Day report, during the engagement, Mohan demanded 200 grams of gold and a bike as dowry. Nandini's parents offered 180 grams of gold and requested Mohan to wait for a while for the bike. But Nandini was subjected her to mental and physical torture for the bike by her in-laws and husband.

Later, Nandini's father gave Mohan Rs 30,000 and asked for a month's time to arrange for the remaining amount, but still Mohan was not satisfied. Fed up with his torture Nandini committed suicide.

Kyataraju J, assistant PSI, Amrutahalli police station, said "from the suicide note, it's clear that the girl committed suicide following harassment by the husband. We have arrested Mohan and are looking for his parents who have gone absconding."
