Iran to send aid ships to Gaza
Tehran, Jun 8: Iran challenged Israel by declaring that it will send three aid ships to Gaza, on Monday Jun 7. Iran informed that its Navy would be ready to escort the ships delivering humanitarian assistance to the residents of Gaza.
In the latest bid to break the blockade imposed on Gaza by the Israel, Iran also declared that it will send a plane carrying 30 tonnes of medical equipment to Egypt for onward delivery to Gaza.
Abdolrauf Adibzadeh, the Red Crescent Director for International Affairs, informed Iranian media that two ships would would head for Gaza this week, followed at a later date by the third one. The cargo on one of the vessels would include food, medicine and appliances. They will despatch a navy hospital ship for the people of Gaza, which will have onboard doctors, nurses and all the medical equipments required for emergency surgeries and procedures.
He said that the vessels will be guided in coordination with the Turkish government. The third vessel would be equipped with an onboard operating theatre and would head for the Palestinian territory at a later date.
The Red Crescent had called for more than 20,000 relief workers to accompany the first two vessels.
Ramin Mehmanparast, the spokesperson of Iranian foreign ministry said that the ships they are going to send will be the symbol of protest movement against the blockade.
