Aussie women finance pros feel underpaid but male co-workers disagree
Sydney, June 8 (ANI): A new survey indicates that most women in the Australian finance sector feel neglected and underpaid while more than half of their male counterparts feel otherwise.
A research, conducted by sector group Finsia, suggests women have got a tough fight ahead in bridging the pay gap given that a majority of men reckon it doesn't exist.
According to the survey, 85 per cent of women agreed there was a gender divide in the financial services industry, as opposed to only 26 per cent of men.
However, fifty-eight percent of the men refused to acknowledge that there was disparity between the genders and strangely, their view was inconsistent with their previous response where many agreed that any gender-based pay inequity was a fait reflection of the hours men put into the work and their fine-tuned skills.
Finsia chief executive Martin Fahy said companies needed to do more to accommodate women in the workforce, particularly around flexible hours and child care.
He urged them to do more to address the lack of women in top level roles.
"The only way to explain the lack of women occupying leadership roles is a common bias at executive management level toward men," the Daily Telegraph quoted Fahy, as saying. (ANI)
