Malaysian-Indian Congress President Vellu hits out at critics, sacks opposers

Kuala Lumpur, May 31 (ANI): Incumbent Malaysian Indian Congress President Samy Vellu has struck back at his detractors who want him to vacate the post to make way for a younger leadership.

Using powers vested in him as president, Vellu has sacked MIC Youth deputy chief V. Mugilan, central working committee (CWC) members K.P. Samy and G. Kumar Aamaan and Petaling Jaya Selatan division chairman V. Subramaniam all of whom were vocal in their criticism of Vellu.

He said his actions were an attempt at protecting the party from power monopolization by any faction.

"MIC is an institution and I won't allow anyone to destroy it. I will also make sure that it is not a slave to anyone," The Star quoted Vellu, as saying.

They retain the right to appeal to the Central Working Committee against the decision.

Countering party veteran and former Deputy S. Subra-maniam's remarks about his failure to do enough for the Malay-Indian community, Vellu said that the weight of the buck fell on Subra-maniam too as he had been his aide for 26 years.

"He was with me for 26 years. He should also share the blame but inside him, he knows what I have done for the community," he said. (ANI)
