Lockerbie bomber's cancer at very advanced stage, says Gaddafi's son
London, May 26(ANI): Libyan leader Colonel Muammar al-Gaddafi's son has claimed that the cancer-hit Lockerbie bomber Abdel Basset al-Megrahi is facing "very serious health troubles".
"He has cancer at a very advanced stage. That is all I know about his condition," The Scotsman quoted Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, as saying during a speech in London.
Megrahi was sentenced to life imprisonment for the 1988 bombing of a Pan Am passenger jet, which claimed the lives of 270 people.
However, the Scottish Government released him on compassionate grounds in August 2009 after doctors reported that he had terminal prostate cancer and had less than three months to live.
His release and subsequent return to Libya has stirred much controversy especially as he has lived much longer than the suggested three months.
Earlier this year, it was reported that Megrahi had made a remarkable recovery and was enjoying a comfortable lifestyle in Libya under the stewardship of Muammar al-Gaddafi. (ANI)
