Britain's first Bangladeshi MP target of 'vile smears'
London, May 23(ANI): Britain's first Bangladeshi MP, Rushanara Ali, is being subjected to a vile Internet smear campaign by fellow Muslims attacking her for refusing to wear a headscarf.
According to reports, comments on a website operated by the Muslim Public Affairs Committee (MPAC UK) have made false attacks about Rushanara, Labour's new MP for Bethnal Green and Bow.
It is also claimed that there are unfounded comments about her private life and smear her as a "sinner" without "ethics or morals or manners".
Rushanara's spokesman described the comments as "offensive" and that they had been reported to the "relevant authorities".
"The remarks will not detract from Ms Ali's work," The Daily Express quoted the spokesman, as saying.
A former researcher at the influential Young Foundation, Rushanara is close to David and Ed Miliband and is a member of the prestigious British American Project, an international forum counting the likes of Jeremy Paxman and Lord Mandelson among its alumni. (ANI)
